William Lovick Jr. was one of many Wilmington, N.C. residents who did not evacuated before hurricane Florence made landfall on September 14th, 2018. The main reason Lovick decided not to leave was due to his medical needs. Over the past few years, Lovick's medical challenges consist of kidney failure, double amputation, diabetes, and congestive heart failure. When asked if he was afraid of the approaching hurricane Lovick Jr. said, "he was not." Lovick Jr. said, " I do not fear the hurricane, I have been close to death so many time if the Lord wanted to take me out of this world, he would have already done so.”

On Thursday, September 13th, 2018 in Wilmington, N.C. the sky has signs of the incoming hurricane due to hit Wilmington. Deciding not to evacuate from the projected Category 4 Hurricane, William goes to his final kidney dialysis treatment before the center closes due to the incoming storm. Lovick Jr. said, "If the Lord has not seen fit to take me by now this Hurricane want to take me out... and if it does I have been operating on borrowed time anyway."

Today's dialysis treatment will only be two hours and not his regular four hours because for William Lovick Jr. because of hurricane Florence. On Thursday, September 13th, 2018 in Wilmington, N.C. Over the last three years William Lovick Jr. has transformed from a proud self-sufficient, hard-working man to a proud, self-sufficient man who is just happy to be alive. Although faced with being a life-long diabetic, suffering a heart attack, having congestive heart and kidney failure and recently having both legs amputated, his will to continue living is still strong. On Friday, September 14th, 2018 in Wilmington, N.C. Lovick Jr. said, "I know many people who would have given up if they had gone through what I have."
